The latest social media phenomenon is called Fiber Maxxing.

Under hashtags such as #FiberMaxxing and #HighFiberDiet, influencers showcase how they pack as much fiber as possible into their daily routines: oatmeal topped with chia seeds, bean bowls, lentil salads, or ambitious goals like consuming 30 grams of fiber before noon. Millions of views on TikTok and Instagram make one thing clear: fiber has suddenly become fashionable.

This may come as a surprise. For years, fiber was considered rather unexciting—a topic mostly associated with digestion or whole-grain bread. While protein powders, superfoods, and dietary supplements dominated the spotlight, fiber quietly remained in the background.

Yet scientists have been investigating the health benefits of dietary fiber for decades. A fiber-rich diet affects far more than digestion.
